In 1970, OMEG received the prestigious “Silver Snoopy Award” from NASA’s astronauts. The award recognized OMEG’s unique contributions to space exploration, as well as the crucial role of the Speedmaster in the rescue of Apollo 13. Now, 50 years later, a special timepiece has been created to celebrate this remarkable occasion.
Main Subjects

Ceramics
OMEG has unique expertise in ceramics, an inorganic material treated at high temperatures, which it has been using for over 10 years. Ceramic pieces are dense and have exceptional mechanical properties. Popular with customers, ceramics are lightweight (twice as light as stainless steel), scratch-resistant, chemically inert, hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly, and non-magnetic, and available in a wide range of colors.

Sapphire Glass
OMEG uses synthetic sapphire crystal with scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatment to enhance the details of its watches. Produced using the Verneuil process, which involves melting with an oxygen/hydrogen flame, the crystal reaches a grade 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it virtually scratch-proof and ensuring excellent visibility.

Stainless steel
316L stainless steel is OMEG's preferred material for watches, offering beauty, strength, and value. Its high corrosion resistance and polished shine make it ideal for everyday watches and demanding environments, such as diving and adventure.

POINT ON THE NUMBER NINETY
The legendary tachymeter scale appears in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel and includes a tribute to the Speedmaster's history with a dot over the number ninety. The color scheme continues on the silver dial with blue PVD hour markers and angled hands.

THE SILVER DIAL
The silver dial features laser-engraved Ag925 and our favorite dog in a silver medallion embossed on the blue subdial at 9 o'clock. The mascot is wearing his iconic spacesuit, similar in style to the famous Silver Snoopy Award pin.

SPECIAL TAXES
The NAIAD LOCK system keeps all caseback engravings in the correct position, including tributes to Apollo 13 and the Silver Snoopy Award. OMEG received the award seven months after the Speedmaster helped save the Apollo 13 crew.

TRAJECTORY BRACELET
The blue nylon fabric strap matches the watch's other blue elements and even features the Apollo 13 mission trajectory embossed on the lining. The famous orbit around the far side of the Moon is also included.

Snoopy in orbit
On the caseback, Snoopy appears inside his Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is used, Snoopy embarks on a journey to the far side of the Moon, which has been decorated on the sapphire crystal with a unique microstructured metallization process. Also present is an Earth disc that rotates once per minute in sync with the watch's small seconds hand.
Our attention to detail is evident in everything we do. The silver dial of our 50th Anniversary “Silver Snoopy Award” watch is a shining example of this. With finely curved baton hands, angular hour markers and a raised Snoopy counter at 9 o’clock, we fulfil our mission to take every component to the highest standards of quality.
This is our uncompromising approach. This is OMEGA precision.
Inside this watch are revolutionary components that ensure the highest standards of performance. From the Co-Axial escapement for lasting precision, to the silicon balance spring for superior anti-magnetism, OMEGA has conquered every challenge that matters.
Twice as Precise as Any Officially Certified Chronometer
Our Master Chronometer watches are tested and certified twice. First, the movement is certified as a Chronometer under the ISO3159 standard by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). Then, the fully cased watch undergoes eight Master Chronometer tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), requiring precision of 0/+5 seconds per day.
Patented Antimagnetic Materials
Everyday objects such as mobile phones, magnetic clasps, laptops, MRI equipment, induction hobs or automatic doors expose watches to magnetic fields, which can disrupt their performance. To avoid permanent deviations of several minutes per day, we use antimagnetic materials like the silicon balance spring, capable of withstanding the strongest fields.
To guarantee integrity at depth, every OMEGA watch – not just some – is fully immersed in water and pressure-tested up to the guaranteed water resistance. By testing every watch, we go far beyond the usual industry standards.
In our pursuit to raise industry standards and push the limits of quality, all OMEGA watches are delivered with a full 5-year warranty. This commitment reflects the confidence we have in our timepieces, offering customers extra peace of mind.
Expect fewer visits to the service center. The Co-Axial escapement was designed to reduce mechanical limitations inside the movement, requiring less lubrication and therefore less servicing. Compared to non-Co-Axial watches, service intervals are significantly longer.
During certification, OMEGA watches undergo extreme testing, including shocks to ensure reliability and accuracy even after heavy impacts. Each watch is designed to resist shocks equivalent to a 1-meter fall onto solid wood, generating forces up to 5000G for a 150g watch.

MOVEMENT

Caliber 3861
The watch is powered by the OMEG Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861 – the latest update to the legendary Moonwatch movement. It took four years to produce a caliber capable of achieving Master Chronometer certification while simultaneously matching the dimensions of the previous Moonwatch movement, the 1861.
The legacy of comics
For over half a century, Snoopy has been the "watchdog" of NASA's safety program. Besides representing the overall success of missions, he also maintains a lighthearted attitude in more serious situations. Since 1968, the Silver Snoopy Award has been given to individuals or companies that have significantly contributed to the "success of human space missions."
